The validity of the EU’s Covid certificate is expected to change from February, with the bloc tightening the rules for its flagship travel pass. With the increase in Omicron cases across Europe, the EU has agreed to limit the validity of the Covid certificate to nine months.

The EU Covid pass allowed holidaymakers to prove their vaccination status, test results and recovery from the virus when crossing Member State borders.

Free travel inside the block without quarantine or additional testing has helped the tourism industry in recent months.

The pass will now only be valid for nine months.

Some EU countries have recently put in place new travel restrictions and the bloc is no longer united on travel rules.

Omicron’s rise to prominence has sparked strong backlash, with countries closing their borders, banning some vacationers, or reinstating testing requirements.

The European Commission reacted by adopting a new rule on the validity of the Covid transport ticket.

This week, the Commission agreed to make the pass valid only nine months after travelers are fully vaccinated.

Complete vaccination has been defined as two doses of a vaccine, or one dose in the case of Johnson & Johnson.

DO NOT MISS

Currently, Italy, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Latvia, Cyprus and Austria all require travelers from the EU to present a negative Covid test on arrival in addition to the Covid pass.

Pass validity will be extended for travelers with a reminder.

There will then be no limit set on the validity of the certificates.

Britons who have been fully vaccinated can present an NHS Covid Pass across Europe.

The pass is accepted as proof of vaccination abroad, but it is not clear whether the new rule will also apply to non-EU passes.

Travel rules are changing again around the world, with the UK removing the pre-departure test from Friday January 7 at 4 a.m.

Holidaymakers returning to the UK will also no longer be required to take a Day 2 PCR test, with a side flow test being deemed sufficient from 4 a.m. on Sunday 9 January.

The move has been welcomed by the travel industry, with Alistair Rowland, managing director of long-haul tour operator, Blue Bay Travel, and chairman of ABTA, saying: “The removal of restrictive travel testing measures imposed by the UK government in December, in a bid to slow the spread of the Omicron variant, is a relief for the travel industry and great news for vacationers.

“The pre-departure test was a major concern for UK travelers who feared they would test positive on vacation, be stranded in quarantine abroad and land with a hefty bill for the privilege.

“Dropping pre-departure testing and replacing Day 2 PCR testing after arrival with cheaper lateral flow testing, which could save families hundreds of pounds in testing costs, will help the travel industry tremendously.” and give customers the confidence to book well. deserved getaway.

As the aviation industry reboots after more than a year of declining passenger numbers, the IATA Travel Pass becomes a pivotal initiative in this next chapter. Airlines around the world have introduced the mobile app to help travelers store and manage their information during the pandemic, but how does the tool actually work?

Airlines across continents, such as Qatar Airways, have praised the IATA Travel Pass because of its ease of use and positive reviews from passengers. Photo: Vincenzo Pace | Simple theft

A new climate

Governments around the world have put in place a series of strict travel restrictions since the global health crisis escalated last year. Conditions have grounded fleets and forced millions to stay where they are, effectively preventing them from seeing loved ones or traveling for work for months.

These restrictions have slowly eased. However, several requirements are still in place to ensure that passengers move safely in the current situation. With the opening of borders, the spread of the virus must be controlled. Therefore, requirements such as tests and vaccinations must be met in order to be able to fly.

Follow the requirements

To facilitate the recording of this information, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced its Travel Pass. Airlines initially started testing the app to load COVID test details and related information. However, trials have started to expand use to include vaccination records. After successful testing, governments have gained the confidence to accept the use of the app for all of their passengers.

Notably, recently IATA announced that it has integrated acceptance of digital vaccine certifications issued by the European Union and the United Kingdom into the application. As a result, it is now easier for travelers to prove their vaccination status when traveling by air.

Overall, the platform is an efficient way to prove test results and immunization status than paper-based processes. The authorities can verify the authenticity of the documentation and the identity of the people with the pass. Ultimately, travelers benefit from centralizing post-COVID travel information in one place.

Basic functionalities

The IATA Travel Pass consists of four main modules:

Health requirements register

This segment allows travelers to find information about travel, tests and vaccines.

Register of screening and vaccination centers

Here, passengers can locate centers and laboratories at their departure and / or arrival locations.

Laboratory application

This feature allows testing centers or authorized laboratories to securely send vaccination certificates or test results to travelers.

Travel Pass application

The app gives passengers the ability to:

  • Create a “digital passport”.
  • Check their vaccination and / or test.
  • Share their vaccination or test results through integration into passenger management systems.

It is important to note that Travel Pass does not store any data centrally. It only links entities requiring verification to test or vaccination data when passengers allow it. In total, the airline customer must give the green light to check. If the traveler chooses to do so, the data is sent from their mobile device directly to an airline or the government.

The right support

To enrich the digital health pass, IATA is working in close collaboration with Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies. The company is using its large presence in the aviation industry to help streamline integration with Travel Pass.

As a leader in high integrity solutions, Collins Aerospace emphasizes that by using connections from a carrier’s host systems to seamlessly send passenger route data to the Travel Pass app. Using the company’s TransAction service, this process compares routes to destination conditions and coronavirus health outcomes to determine if a passenger is “OK to travel.” Importantly, the same connections can then be used to update the operator’s host system with this status.

With this managed service, ongoing support and maintenance of integrations is covered by Collins Aerospace. Thus, the login process can continue to be used as the challenges of the aviation industry continue to evolve.

IATA notes that Collins’ tool helps operators catalyze adoption of the app through the ease of integration. Ultimately, as the world continues to be impacted by the pandemic, further support from Collins will go a long way.

“More than half of the world’s borders have some sort of travel restriction in place, but we see the rollout of vaccination and testing measures as positive steps towards restoring international air travel,” he said. added. shares Jennifer Schopfer, president of Connected Aviation Solutions. “With the use of Collins Aerospace technology, Travel Pass will enable a secure flow of information to ensure passengers are aware of the health requirements for their trip and for airlines to confirm that these requirements have been met. “

Look ahead

Over 60 carriers have signed up to use the IATA Travel Pass. More people are returning to the air as borders slowly open in many key regions. For air transport to continue in the right direction, carriers and the wider market must show that the new government conditions can be managed effectively. Thus, the Travel Pass will occupy a vital position in the next step and beyond.

Airlines and passengers alike would dread another dark age of travel, as we have seen over the past one and a half years. Overall, initiatives such as the IATA Travel Pass will prove invaluable in the mission of continuing to operate safe and efficient.

What do you think of the IATA Travel Pass? Have you had the opportunity to try the app on the go? Let us know what you think of the initiative in the comments section.

PETALING JAYA: Unlimited travel pass priced at RM50 per month for using Prasarana Malaysia Berhad rail and bus services in the Klang Valley will begin on January 1.

“The promotion period for My30 ends on December 31, 2021 and it will be replaced with a RM 50 per month travel pass, which was announced by the Minister of Finance in the 2022 draft budget in the Dewan Rakyat on October 29, with RM 115 million set aside for the initiative, ”Dr Wee said at a press conference to announce the introduction of the My50 travel pass at Gombak LRT station on Monday, December 28.

He added that the introduction of the My50 travel pass was proof of the government’s concern for the welfare and welfare of the people, especially in the current difficult situation in line with the aspirations of the “Malaysian family” .

Open exclusively to Malaysians, the My50 travel pass offered unlimited travel for Malaysians to use all public transport services operated by Prasarana such as stop-and-go LRT, MRT, BRT, Monorail and Rapid KL buses as well as shuttles. Jom Naik MRT by simply paying RM50 for a period of use of 30 consecutive days.

The My50 travel pass service was also available in Penang for unlimited use of the Rapid Penang bus service under the Pas Mutiara label.

“For Penang, the pass will be called the My50 Mutiara Pass and can be used for the Rapid Penang service bus stop,” Dr Wee said, adding that for now, installing the pass. pass was not extended to Rapid Kuantan, which is another bus service network operated by Prasarana.

To make this travel pass initiative a success, the government has allocated RM115 million as a grant to cover the costs incurred by Prasarana to provide world-class public transport services, he said. .

“With the introduction of this My50 travel pass and with the continued good development of the National Recovery Plan (PNR), we are convinced that 2022 will see an increase in the number of passengers using the services operated by Prasarana”, he added. he adds.

Overall for 2021, based on data up to December 24, the average number of daily passengers handled by Prasarana is 462,246 passengers with an average number of rail passengers of 324,517 per day and 137,729 passengers for buses, which cover Rapid KL, Rapid Penang and Rapid. Kuantan Services.

Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, Prasarana was handling up to 1.1 million passengers per day in 2019, Dr Wee said.

“With its capacity and capacity, Prasarana is able to increase the frequency of the trains and buses it operates if demand increases, while ensuring that passengers continue to enjoy a comfortable, smooth and safe journey.” , added Dr Wee.

Although it is a huge investment for the government to provide the unlimited pass, Dr Wee said it is crucial to do so as the public transport sector plays a role in well-being. of the population and the economic development of the country.

As the Prime Minister underlined at the launch of the Malaysian Family Pass on November 22, public transport has an important role to play in realizing the aspirations of the Malaysian family.

“Besides being a tool to unite the nation in realizing the aspirations of the Malaysian family, efficient public transport services will also encourage the development of business activities and generate economic growth for the country.

“Therefore, I sincerely hope that people will continue to support public transport services and use the facilities provided by this My50 unlimited travel pass to revitalize the country’s economy and the spirit of Malaysian family unity,” Dr Wee added.

Dubai: Passengers traveling with Emirates airline to EU countries will be able to download their negative PCR test results and vaccination certificates taken anywhere in the country without having to go to specific laboratories.

Emirates customers simply need to download the IATA Travel Pass, scan the Travel Pass QR code from the Alhosn app and upload the results to the app. Citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates will also be able to download their negative PCR test results and vaccination certificates taken anywhere in the country without the need to visit specific laboratories.

The airline has worked closely with the Alhosn National Health System team to enable readability and recognition of customer health credentials with EU verified QR codes, including status COVID-19 vaccine and PCR test results, on the IATA Travel Pass.

This health data is stored in the national cloud with the highest privacy standards and policies set by the UAE Data Protection Law.

The new enhancements make it easier for Emirates customers to benefit from the IATA Travel Pass and obtain their “Ok to Travel” prior to departure to any EU destination on the airline’s network.

By using the Alhosn app, Emirates customers traveling from the United Arab Emirates to the EU can also reliably demonstrate their COVID-19 health status and be able to enter hospitality and hospitality venues with ease. entertainment, attending events or engaging in other experiences requiring proof of negative test. results or vaccination. This minimizes the use of multiple apps to demonstrate testing and vaccination status in the EU, and also enables safer and more convenient travel for Emirates customers.

“As part of Emirates’ plan to implement digital travel verification and make the travel process more transparent, we are improving the customer experience throughout the trip in terms of administration and uploading test results and proof of vaccination, in partnership. with Alhosn, ”said Adel Al Redha, Emirates COO.

“Our partnership with Emirates is a great demonstration of the importance and satisfaction of creating safe, secure and enjoyable technology integrations,” said the Alhosn National Health System team.

In July, Emirates integrated Alhosn’s national healthcare system via the national cloud into its registration systems, enabling rapid digital retrieval and verification of COVID-19 medical records, regardless of where customers of the United Arab Emirates have completed their vaccination, or PCR, COVID-19. testing. Customers’ COVID-19 health information is handled in a highly secure manner with data privacy protocols and is immediately deleted from Emirates systems once verification is complete.

Emirates was one of the first airlines in the industry to test the IATA Travel Pass and offers the solution to customers serving 50 cities across its network.

BBMP chief says city follows strict practice of only allowing double vaccines to enter malls and movie theaters

Is there a plan to introduce a ‘universal pass’ in Bangalore? With the Omicron afraid to tour the city, many are pressuring civic agencies to introduce such a system in Bangalore. Commenting on this, BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta said: “We follow a strict practice that only fully vaccinated people are allowed in theaters and shopping malls. Meanwhile, a BBMP official said that if there is a demand, plans for a system can be discussed.

Meanwhile, the demand for booster doses is also increasing. A health official said: “Karnataka is one of the first states in the country to require booster doses and the center has yet to take a final call. Look at the recent Omicron cases… Most patients turn out to be double vaccinated. About five cases of Omicron reported on Thursday were all fully vaccinated. It is best to go for a booster dose sooner.

Another health expert said: ‘We are seeing a massive increase in covid cases in the UK and the UK Prime Minister has also called for booster doses. It should be a wake-up call for us to give early boosters before we see an increase in Omicron cases here. ”

Meanwhile, the state’s total positivity rate hit a new low of just 0.2%, according to Friday’s health bulletin. Karnataka has reported 238 new cases of covid and three deaths, indicating that the total number of infections is 30,01792 and the death toll is 38,282, the health department noted.

The day also marked 317 dumps, bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 29,56,405. Of the new cases reported today, 153 were from Bengaluru Urban and the city has recorded 185 exits and 2 deaths. The total number of active cases is 7,076. Of the three reported deaths, two were from Bengaluru Urban and one from Mysuru.

After Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada recorded the second highest number of new cases, 19. Mysuru recorded 15, and Kodagu registered 13 new cases. Bengaluru Urban now has a total of 12 59,738 positive cases. Mysuru has 1,80,119 and Tumakuru has 1,221,234. According to the department bulletin, Bengaluru Urban has a total of 12.37,765 landfills, followed by Mysuru at 1.77.525 and Tumakuru at 1.19.969. A total of 5,50 93,486 samples have been tested in the state so far, of which 1,17,058 have been tested on Friday alone.

Debates around a cocktail

New pockets of infection and travel decrease covid-appropriate behaviors, increasing the incidence of covid-19 disease. The booster dose has been extensively studied in an observational study in Israel. Some western countries are already giving booster doses. There is a need to review and implement policies regarding booster doses in vulnerable populations.

WHO recommends mixing and matching booster dose

As asked by health experts in Bangalore, the World Health Organization on Thursday released interim recommendations for mixing and matching covid vaccines from different manufacturers for the second dose and booster shots.

Depending on availability, mRNA vaccines, such as those developed by Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc can be used as subsequent doses after the initial doses of AstraZeneca vector vaccine and vice versa, the world health body said.

AstraZeneca and one of the mRNA vaccines can also be used after the initial doses of Sinopharm’s inactivated vaccine, the WHO said. Viral vector vaccines contain instructions for making coronavirus antigens, while mRNA vaccines use a code for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes covid, to trigger an immune response in recipients.

Inactivated vaccines take the SARS-CoV-2 virus and deactivate or kill it using chemicals, heat or radiation. The guideline was developed based on advice from the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Vaccines earlier this month. The recommendation comes after a major study last week. The WHO also said mixing and matching should take into account projections of supply, affordability and benefits, as well as the risks of using covid vaccines. The recommendations will be reviewed as new data becomes available, the world health agency noted.

The UK government has announced that those under 16 are now eligible for an NHS Covid Pass for international travel. That’s good news for families planning a ski vacation, but only if the kids are doubled. NEW

Until now, only those over 16 could obtain a Covid Pass proving their vaccination status to be used for travel.

The change means that 12 to 15-year-olds who have received an approved full vaccine will be able to demonstrate their immunization status to meet border entry and health card requirements into the country.

This includes several ski nations.

The Covid Pass will be in the form of a letter with an internationally recognized 2D barcode.

The letter will be valid for 30 days and may take up to 7 business days to be delivered.

It can be ordered by calling 119 or through the NHS.UK website.

The government has said it is planning a “digital solution” early next year.

“This decision will allow families to plan their vacation in 2022 with greater confidence, as parents can be reassured that they can prove their child’s immunization status once they have received both doses of the vaccine,” said the Secretary of Health and Social Affairs, Sajid. Javide.

This move is unlikely to result in a big rush for Christmas ski travel.

On the one hand, the hard copy of the Covid pass letter might not arrive on time.

More importantly, the majority of 12 to 15 year olds will have received only one dose of the vaccine so far.

This age group did not become eligible for a dose of the vaccine until the end of September.

On November 29, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization recommended that they receive a second dose.

This would be administered no earlier than 12 weeks after the first one.

But would that be good news for the family vacation back to school in February and Easter?

“This is obviously something to be applauded. This will clearly help families later in the season, ”said Craig Burton, general manager of the specialist agent, Ski Solutions.

“But what would have been better was that they allowed a letter to be sent to 12 to 15 year olds as proof of recovery.

“A lot of them have had Covid. If you’re 16 or older, you can get digital proof of recovery, but 12-15 year olds are in limbo.

“All European countries will accept proof of recovery if you’ve had the virus in the past six months, but British children have no way of getting it.

“We continue to lobby and make a lot of noise about it. This is the most troublesome problem.

While the first daughter was born on November 30 near the village of Peddakothapally in a bus belonging to the Nagarkurnool depot, another woman gave birth to her daughter on board on December 7 near Siddipet. The bus belongs to the Asifabad depot.

He said the two women gave birth unexpectedly on the bus and that TSRTC members on the bus and other passengers helped deliver. He later added that TSRTC members have coordinated with the health ministry to transfer the mother and babies to public hospitals and are doing well.

Appreciating the quick response and support from the crew and passengers of TSRTC, Sajjanar said he was delighted to offer newborns free lifetime passes for their trip on TSRTC buses.

Earlier this month, the TSRTC submitted a proposal to the state government to increase bus fares. The public transport operator mentioned an increase of 25 paise per km for ordinary services, including “Palle Velugu” (rural) services, and of 30 paise per km for express and higher services, including urban services. . Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar finalized the proposal on Wednesday December 1 in a meeting with TSRTC Chairman Bajireddy Govardhan, Managing Director VC Sajannar and other officials. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Reddy will make a final decision on the proposal. The transport minister defended the proposed hike, saying there was no other option given the mounting losses. If the government accepts TSRTC’s proposal to improve the tariff, it should earn an additional Rs 850 crore.

The NHS app and website experienced another major outage yesterday, causing chaos for travelers trying to access their Covid Pass vaccination records.

Users trying to access their NHS passes online last night encountered an error message: ‘There are currently issues accessing the Covid pass on the NHS app and website. We are investigating the issue and will update as soon as possible.

The official NHS Twitter account then gave several assurances that the developers were working on technical issues with the website and app.

Shortly after midnight, the NHS tweeted: ‘We have identified the cause of the intermittent issues with the NHS COVID Pass and we are urgently working to resolve it. We apologize for any disruption caused by these issues.

The NHS website and app experienced another major outage on October 13, with the Covid Pass feature out of service for four and a half hours.

Some travelers have said they were unable to access their Covid vaccine certificates at the airport, where many airlines and destinations require you to show proof of vaccination before travel or at the border.

Travelers usually have a short window during check-in and security to show proof of vaccination, so outages of this centralized system lasting several hours could be a real problem for vacationers.

Double-bitten travelers can also download their Covid Pass to travel in advance, to avoid being caught off guard by digital issues like yesterday.

In October, journalist Caroline Frost said Sky News that she had missed her flight to France due to a technical problem.

“I had all these previous documents, but there was nothing they could do,” she said.

“It was a worthwhile moment. [The airline staff member] said “I sympathize, but there is nothing I can do.” She called her boss, there was nothing he could do.

“It was extremely frustrating and it felt like such a waste of money. And of course, when the application is operational, I will be the same person, I will be in the same conditions of eligibility vaccinated to travel.

The outage occurred shortly after Boris Johnson announced an increase in the use of vaccine passports, which will be needed to access larger events and nightclubs across the UK from next week.
