Travel agency King’s Lynn reassures customers in West Norfolk about canceled flights and airport chaos

A travel agent is reassuring and advising customers in West Norfolk who are worried about the fate of their upcoming summer holiday, following media reports of canceled flights and chaos at UK airports over the period of May and Jubilee holidays.

Your Co-op Travel, which has a branch in Lynn, said the disruption has not deterred customers from booking, with summer vacation 2022 accounting for 69% of bookings made last week.

Customer cancellations between May 29 and June 4 were also down 29% from the previous week, demonstrating the determination of holidaymakers in the region to get away from it all this summer, after two years of Covid-19 restrictions limiting their wanderlust.

Mark Mitchell, commercial manager for Your Co-op Travel, part of The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “Some of our customers’ holidays have been affected by canceled flights or delays at airports, namely Birmingham, East Midlands and Bristol, but overall far more flights and holidays are going on than not.

“We are receiving more inquiries than usual from worried customers, who have seen the media reports of travel chaos and want reassurance about their upcoming summer vacation. However, this does not deter customers from booking summer getaways, nor are we seeing a significant number of customer cancellations. Many of our clients haven’t been abroad for three years and now that the majority of Covid travel restrictions have been lifted, they just want to get away!

“Our advice to customers is to purchase a package holiday with one of the trusted, ATOL-protected tour operators that Your Co-op Travel sells, including our own tour operator, Co-op Holidays. In the event of a problem, the tour operator will either offer an alternative flight and/or accommodation, or, if the holiday has to be cancelled, a refund will be made. “We tell customers who are traveling imminently to check the airline’s app for updates on their flight before traveling and to keep checking our Facebook page for the latest news and advice. We ask customers not to arrive at the airport earlier than the recommended time as this may affect the flow of passengers through the airport and, to maintain queues, we urge them to have liquids, gels, pastes and electrical devices ready to quickly remove from their bag during the security check.

“We also advise holidaymakers to prepare for airport delays by packing extra entertainment for children, as well as snacks, battery chargers for devices and a travel blanket and pillow.
